Could You Take CBD Along with Other Traditional (Non-CBD) Supplements?

If you’re a wellness enthusiast who takes CBD each day, there’s a good chance that you also take daily supplements to keep your body in good overall health.  The supplement market is more popular than ever thanks to a deeper understanding of the effects of nutritional deficiencies, food intolerances and chemical imbalances that can be corrected with minerals, amino acids and more.

But, can CBD and supplements be taken together safely?  And, would the presence of one in the body counteract the effectiveness of the other?  Today, we’ll be talking a closer look into the relationship between standard supplements and CBD, so that you can plan your wellness routine accordingly.

In Short, Yes

When dealing with these types of subjects, it’s important to look to experts, and we’re happy to say that experts by and large agree that there’s no danger of taking CBD in addition to traditional supplements, whether they be vitamins, nootropics or any other kind of supplement intended for daily use.  Why is that?  Well, for one thing, CBD is unique in the way in which it works with the human body, feeding the endocannabinoid system a compound that it is capable of producing on its own.  If the body makes its own cannabinoids, then that’s a good reason why the body is designed to handle both CBD and standard supplements.  Basically, this balance already exists within the body.

As of now, there have been no reported negative interactions between CBD and supplements.  Also, bear in mind that CBD has been around for quite some time at this point, so if we haven’t heard anything negative regarding interactions yet, then that’s a very good sign.

CBD May Enhance Certain Supplements

Despite the fact that the CBD industry has now been booming for a couple of years, there’s still a lot of research to be done regarding the specifics of how it interacts with the body.  Therefore, it’s understandable that we’re lacking data that suggests specific ways in which CBD works with particular supplements.  However, there are researchers who suggest that CBD may enhance certain supplements, and studies are underway on this topic.  This isn’t too surprising when you again consider the nature of the endocannabinoid system.  This bodily system performs regulatory actions throughout the body, and may boost the body’s ability to absorb certain nutrients as a result by regulating the bodily processes that deal with nutrient absorption.  Again, the research on this topic is lacking at the moment, but we believe that we’ll know more about the subject soon as CBD continues to climb in popularity.

CBD May Slightly Decrease the Effectiveness of Vitamin D Supplements

One thing that we’ve heard is that CBD may slightly decrease the effectiveness of vitamin D supplements, and currently, we don’t know why this may potentially be the case.  The good news is that if this is true, then those who are vitamin D deficient can simply make a point to absorb more of this vital nutrient in order to compensate.

CBD Has its Own Nutrients

Another thing to remember is that hemp extracts that contain CBD also contain a variety of nutrients, including essential vitamins, essential fatty acids and amino acids.  This means that when you consume most hemp products, you’re supplementing your body with these vital nutrients while also feeding your body’s endocannabinoid system.  But, know that not all CBD products contain the same nutritional composition.  CBD isolate products, for instance, only contain CBD, without any other compounds that exist in hemp.  Therefore, CBD isolate will not give you the nutrients that we listed above, but broad and full spectrum hemp products will.

Final Thoughts

It’s clear that there’s no reason to be concerned about adding CBD to your daily routine if you’re already taking supplements each day, regardless of what you’re taking.  If you are really concerned, you can always speak to your doctor.  However, as of now, it appears that it’s completely safe to take both CBD and traditional supplements on a daily basis for an indefinite period of time.  That’s good news for wellness enthusiasts who want to keep their bodies in as good of a shape as possible.
